The Colorado Buffaloes football coaching staff is nearing completion.
CU is expected to add Eastern Illinois co-defensive coordinator Kwahn Drake as defensive line coach, according to USA Today’s Dan Wolken. CU has yet to formally announce a hire. Drake would replace Jim Jeffcoat, who spent the last five years as a Buffs’ assistant coach prior to being let go this offseason.
The staff shakeup is no surprise considering the lack of consistency from CU’s defensive front. The Buffs’ 1.58 sacks-per-game average in 2017 ranked tied for No. 104 nationally. Their run defense was equally inept through the majority of Pac-12 play — Washington (254), Arizona (413), Oregon State (280), Arizona State (381) and Utah (310).
