HONOLULU - Derek McCartney believes the Colorado defense took a step forward in Thursday's season opener against Hawaii.
The sophomore defensive end was hardly ready to announce that the unit has arrived, however.
"All I know is that they scored more points than us, so their defense outplayed us," he said. "So we have to get better."
The disappointment of CU's 28-20 loss to Hawaii cast a massive shadow on anything positive to come out of the game. The overall play of CU's defense, however, was at least a little bit encouraging.
Facing Hawaii's new-look, up-tempo/no huddle offense, the Buffs held the Warriors to 302 yards in total offense.
