Colorado safeties coach Joe Tumpkin resigns amid investigation into domestic violence allegations

Colorado has parted ways with safeties coach Joe Tumpkin, who is under criminal investigation by the Broomfield Police Department amid allegations he assaulted an ex-girlfriend.

Tumpkin resigned from his position, effective Jan. 31, after CU asked him to do so, the school said in a press release Friday.

“Joe is currently defending himself against allegations made in court records that do not represent our values,” Colorado athletic director Rick George said in a statement. “Furthermore, we need to move forward to ensure we do not have gaps in our coaching staff as we build the team and sign new recruits.
