The mess is thick. And there’s a lot of teams stuck in it.
Following his team’s key 71-63 home win Saturday against Utah, Colorado men’s basketball coach Tad Boyle offered an apt analogy for the quagmire dragging down the bulk of the Pac-12 Conference. It’s not pretty. Yet the struggle for survival involves plenty of competitors.
The win against the Utes improved CU to an even 8-8 in the Pac-12 with two regular-season games remaining. Those games are at the CU Events Center, where the Buffs are 11-2.
Those two home losses occurred against Washington, which already has clinched the league’s regular-season crown, and Oregon State, one of the teams the Buffaloes hope will falter down the stretch, allowing an opportunity for one of those muck teams, like CU, to sneak its way into a top-four spot and a first-round bye at the conference tournament next week in Las Vegas.
