BOULDER — Colorado really didn’t know if Manny Wilkins would start at quarterback for Arizona State. The sophomore starter had sprained his ankle Oct. 1, and he practiced only sparingly leading up to Saturday’s game.
The Buffs knew there’d be a good chance Wilkins, an athletic dual-threat quarterback, wouldn’t have full mobility if he did start, so the opportunity to apply heavy pressure was one that had the Buffs licking their chops.
Nobody was ready to tee up more than Jimmie Gilbert. CU’s top pass rusher had two sacks in the first half, plus a tackle for a loss after Wilkins fumbled a snap in the first quarter.
