Coburn Leads Buffs on First Day at USATF Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Former University of Colorado standout Emma Coburn put on a clinic on Thursday night at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships, easily winning the first round of the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

The 2012 Olympian cruised to a time of 9:36.90 in her first steeplechase race of the season. In typical fashion, she moved to the head of the pack at the start of the race and never looked back. The 2015 NCAA Champion, Colleen Quigley, was the runner-up to Coburn, finishing in 9:40.97.

Another CU 2012 Olympian, Shalaya Kipp, also moved on to the finals of the steeplechase, but her route wasn’t as easy in the first heat.
