BOULDER — The Colorado defense in recent years has spent its fair share of time staring at the back of an opponent’s jersey, futilely chasing a big play.
Breakdowns, from blown assignments to missed tackles to a lack of recognition of an offense’s formation, have plagued the Buffs in recent seasons, a major factor in keeping them from breaking through in big games.
So as CU approaches its first such test of the 2016 season with Saturday’s road game against No. 5 Michigan, it’s not the raw numbers his defense has produced in the season’s first two games that have impressed fourth-year coach Mike MacIntyre.
