BOULDER — Karl Dorrell's Colorado head coaching debut had all the signs of a runaway CU win early Saturday night, but the Buffaloes then provided their new head coach with some tense moments before taking control late to carve out a 48-42 win over UCLA at Folsom Field.
Dorrell became the third straight coach to win his Colorado opener.
Colorado built a 35-7 lead midway through the second quarter before the Bruins cut the lead to 35-28 with three straight touchdowns — one late in the second quarter and two early in the third.
