BOULDER – If Linda Lappe had opening-day questions about her young Colorado women’s basketball team, the Buffaloes put at least one of the queries to rest on Saturday at the Coors Events Center: They can shoot free throws.
Converting 12 of 14 from the foul line in the final 1:43, CU held off Loyola Marymount 92-81 and won its 2015-16 season opener. The Buffs hit 26-of-30 free throws while the Lions were 34-of-45.
“One-and-oh – that’s the goal,” Lappe said, noting that getting there took surviving the ebb-and-flow of a game that saw her team go ahead by as many as 18 points in the first half and 19 in the second before allowing stubborn LMU to creep to within six in the final 2 minutes.
