BOULDER – With six captains for the 2014 season, the University of Colorado football team went a little above the norm. For 2015, the Buffaloes are going a lot above the norm; last season’s number will double.
Coach Mike MacIntyre believes his third CU team has enough solid citizens to allow the formation of a 12-member leadership council – the Dedicated Dozen, maybe? – that can direct the Buffs from within on a daily basis.
The replacement of captains with a leadership council represents a coaching first for MacIntyre, who said he bounced the idea off of several colleagues and a sports psychologist, scrutinized his returning players for their leadership abilities/potential, then gave himself the green light to try it.
