Without MacKinnon, Avalanche defeats Chicago Blackhawks 6-4 for ninth-consecutive victory

Minus first-line center Nathan MacKinnon, who sustained a concussion and facial fractures in their previous game, the Avs claimed their ninth consecutive win Friday night at Chicago. Captain Gabe Landeskog scored two power-play goals and Colorado produced its NHL-record 14th victory in January by defeating the Blackhawks 6-4 at the United Center.

“You lose a guy like Nate, you’re losing a guy that plays 23 minutes a night, all the offensive situations, so someone has to fill in there. (Sam) Girard goes in the power play and did a great job.
