It’s been the worst kept secret in hockey. WE’ve known for quite a while that then Colorado Eagles would become the AHL’s 31s franchise in the 2018-19 season - on Tuesday it will finally be made official.
The team will be move from the ECHL and become the top minor league affiliate for the Avalanche.
Having an AHL team so close is huge for the Avs. It allows for easier roster manipulation as well as the opportunity for the coaching and development staff to work with the AHLers more often.
Speaking of AHL affiliates, for this season the Avs will still rely on the San Antonio Rampage and the Rampage are going to get a familiar face back today.
