Tavis MacMillan, a Winnipeg Jets scout since 2007 and nephew of a two-time Stanley Cup winner John MacMillan, is the new University of Denver assistant coach, replacing Joe Clark, who resigned after one year because of family obligations.
MacMillan, 44, is from Milk River, Alberta, and played hockey at Alaska-Fairbanks. He later served as assistant and head coach for the Nanooks before joining the NHL Jets.
MacMillan’s uncle, John MacMillan, won two NCAA titles (1958, 1960) with the Pioneers before embarking on a NHL career that included Stanley Cup-winning seasons with Toronto in 1962 and 1962.
MacMillan will work under head coach Jim Montgomery and assistant David Carle.
