Varlamov Named First Star of the Week

The NHL announced Monday that Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov has been named the league's first star for the week ending Jan. 24.

Varlamov went 4-0-0 in the last seven days, recording a 0.98 goals-against average and a .972 save percentage (138-of-142). He allowed only one goal in each of his four starts.

The Samara, Russia, native began the week by topping the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 on the road. The win, which improved Colorado's Central Division Record to 10-3-1, kicked off the Avalanche's current four-game win streak. The Avs' netminder stopped 36 shots in the victory and was named the first star of the game.
