The NHL announced Monday that Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov has been named the league's first star for the week ending Jan. 24.
Varlamov went 4-0-0 in the last seven days, recording a 0.98 goals-against average and a .972 save percentage (138-of-142). He allowed only one goal in each of his four starts.
The Samara, Russia, native began the week by topping the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 on the road. The win, which improved Colorado's Central Division Record to 10-3-1, kicked off the Avalanche's current four-game win streak. The Avs' netminder stopped 36 shots in the victory and was named the first star of the game.
