TAMPA, Fla. — Young Tyson Jost registered his first career NHL hat trick Saturday as the red-hot Avalanche — despite facing the mighty Tampa Bay Lightning on the road — continued to roll.
Jost, 21, gave Colorado leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 4-1 at Amalie Arena as the Avs defeated the defending President’s Trophy champions 6-2 to extend their season-opening points streak to eight games (7-0-1). The Avs’ 15 points is a club record through eight games; the previous best was 2013-14 (7-1-0, 14 points). And they remain the NHL’s only unbeaten team through regulation.
Tampa Bay (4-3-1) is coming off a 62-win, 128-point season, tying the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings for the most wins in an NHL season.
