Thank you Eric Lindros

When the Quebec Nordiques drafted Eric Lindros first overall in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, many thought the organization had made a huge blunder - and for hockey fans in Quebec, it is likely still painful.

The superstar center from the Oshawa Generals was far and away the best prospect in the draft.

The problem, of course, was that he had warned the Nordiques that he wouldn’t play for them. Quebec called his bluff and started what would become a year long stalemate between player and team.

Holding to his word, Lindros refused to sign and spent the next season back with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL and Team Canada - winning a silver medal at the Olympics.
