SAN JOSE, Calif. — When the Avalanche Wednesday recalled goalie Spencer Martin for the fourth time this season in the wake of Semyon Varlamov's latest problem with groin muscle issues, coach Jared Bednar said Martin would get his first NHL start soon.
Soon is Saturday.
Martin, 21, will be in the Avalanche net as Colorado attempts to snap its latest losing streak at four games against the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center.
Calvin Pickard had 34 saves in Colorado's bizarre 2-1 loss at Anaheim Thursday, including 22 in a scoreless first period.
