Standout rookie defenseman Cale Makar did not practice with the Avalanche on Tuesday, two days before the regular-season opener, but coach Jared Bednar said Makar will play Thursday against Calgary at the Pepsi Center.
“Maintenance day. He should be good to go. He’s just got a little tweak,” Bednar said after practice. “So he’s going to take the day (off) and get fixed up.”
Makar was replaced by Kevin Connauton at even-strength in practice and rookie Conor Timmins on the No. 1 power play.
The Avs, who are carrying 27 players, must get down to 23 later today.
