Penalties, Blackhawks doom Avs to fourth straight defeat

The Avalanche spent 60 minutes with their collective backs to the wall. It took just 41 seconds of overtime for those backs to break.

Patrick Kane’s power play goal less than a minute into overtime handed Colorado its fourth straight loss, a 3-2 decision on Saturday night before a sellout crowd at the Pepsi Center.

The visitors opened the extra period with a 4-on-3 power play after captain Gabe Landeskog was whistled for a 4-minute double-minor high-sticking call with 18:48 left in regulation.

“Take two, four, eight minutes of penalties in the last seven minutes of the game,” coach Jared Bednar said, “(it’s) tough to win.
