Odd-man rushes lead to another loss as Avalanche fall to Coyotes

In what might go down as the Avalanche’s worse loss of the young season, the similarly struggling Arizona Coyotes scored on odd-man rushes to begin the first and third periods. The very issue first-year coach Jared Bednar says must be eliminated was on display with rested players Tuesday night in a 4-2 loss at the Pepsi Center.

Bednar’s new system is understandably a work in progress, but there is no excuse for the back-breaking goal that gave the visitors a 4-2 lead 11 seconds into the third period. Jordan Martinook scored on an easy 2-on-1 tap-in after Colorado defenseman Erik Johnson pinched on the puck in the neutral zone.
