NHL suspends regular season amid coronavirus pandemic

The NHL announced Thursday it has suspended regular-season games due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier in the day, the league advised clubs to refrain from conducting morning skates, practices or team meetings. League officials were set to meet during the day to discuss how the league would handle the virus.

Reports also surfaced that the league asked teams to identify open arena dates through July, meaning the season would be pushed back.

“The NHL has been attempting to follow the mandates of health experts and local authorities, while preparing for any possible developments without taking premature or unnecessary measure,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement.
