NEWARK, N.J. — In an ugly turn of events for Avalanche faithful, the New Jersey Devils erupted for five unanswered goals to defeat Colorado 5-3 on Tuesday night at Prudential Center.
“We were terrible,” Avs coach Jared Bednar said. “I’ll give them credit. I thought they played well. They skated. It looked like we had no energy, no legs — mentally and physically tired.”
The NHL-leading Avalanche (41-12-5), which led 3-0 early in the second period, lost for the first time when leading after the opening 20 minutes (23-1-0).
