Nathan MacKinnon leaves Avalanche game with apparent injury in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA — The Avalanche couldn’t afford another injury, especially one of this magnitude.

Nathan MacKinnon exited Colorado’s game against the Flyers in the first period Monday. He went to the dressing room for the remainder of the period, was evaluated in the second period and deemed unable to return at second intermission, a team spokesperson told The Denver Post. The official designation was an upper-body injury.

It is unclear how MacKinnon suffered it, but he appeared to be in discomfort after firing a shot during an Avalanche power play. Philadelphia’s Scott Laughton also checked him into the boards at one point.
