Seven players from the Colorado Avalanche organization will represent their home countries when they take the ice at the 2016 IIHF World Championship, which begins this Friday and runs until May 22 in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia.
Forward Matt Duchene and goaltender Calvin Pickard were named to Team Canada, the defending gold medal champions. Duchene, who was selected as an alternate captain for the team on Thursday, has played at four previous World Championships and the 2014 Winter Olympics for Canada. This will be the first time that Pickard has represented his native country as a professional.
