Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic on Friday said he presented a contract proposal to agent Don Meehan, who represents defenseman Tyson Barrie, on Thursday night in conjunction with the NHL draft in Buffalo, N.Y.
“We presented a long-term proposal, and we’ll see where that goes,” Sakic said. “If not anywhere, he’s going to go to arbitration.”
Barrie, 24, has 38 goals over the past three seasons for Colorado. He’s coming off a two-year, $5.2 million contract with the Avalanche and will be a restricted free agent July 1, as will center Nathan MacKinnon, who has finished up his three-year entry-level contract.
