University of Denver defenseman Ian Mitchell is a top prospect of the Chicago Blackhawks who turned down his NHL entry-level contract last summer to return to DU for his junior year.
He yearned to serve as captain and lead the Pioneers to a national title.
But on Tuesday, Mitchell was taking two online exams at his family’s home in Calahoo, Alberta, wondering what might have been if the coronavirus hadn’t changed everything.
“I just feel terrible for my teammates and all the work we put it and having as good a chance as anyone, in my opinion, to win the national championship,” Mitchell said during a phone interview.
