Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene and goaltender Calvin Pickard were named to Team Canada's initial roster Monday for the 2016 IIHF World Championship.
The two Avs were part of a group of 18 players that Hockey Canada confirmed to play at the May 6-22 tournament in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia. Canada is the defending champions after going undefeated at the 2015 event in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Duchene is no stranger to wearing Canada's maple leaf crest on his jersey. The Haliburton, Ontario, native has represented his country at four previous world championships and at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
