Forward Curtis Glencross, who signed a professional tryout (PTO) contract with the Avalanche on Monday, was expected to meet the team in Calgary on Tuesday and play a preseason game against the Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Glencross, 32, has a home in Calgary, where he played for 6 ½ seasons before being traded to Washington late last season. Glencross was released from his PTO with Toronto on Sunday. He completed a four-year, $10.2 million contract last season and is among a handful of proven veterans unable to earn a contract during the offseason.
Glencross, who played two NCAA seasons for the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves, is a gritty scorer who can contribute on any line in any situation.
