Colorado Thunderbirds produce homegrown NHL picks

Defenseman Brandon Carlo of Colorado Springs, forward Troy Terry of Highlands Ranch and goalie Evan Smith of Parker were selected in the NHL draft Saturday.

Carlo went 37th overall (second round) to the Boston Bruins, Terry No. 148 (fifth round) to the Anaheim Ducks and Smith No. 205 (seventh round) to the Nashville Predators. They played triple-A youth hockey for the Colorado Thunderbirds.

Terry is an incoming DU freshman who most recently has played for the U.S. National Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. He will depart for Anaheim on Tuesday to attend the Ducks' prospects camp.
