Alex Newhook was traded from the Colorado Avalanche to the Montreal Canadiens for two draft picks and defenceman Gianni Fairbrother. The team has now shipped one of those picks (pick 37th overall) to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for center Ross Colton.
When the Newhook trade broke, the Avalanche were certain to be looking for more action before the NHL Draft. Their window is open right now. They want to win. They also want to stock up on prospects, but it is a balancing act.
Colton appeared in 81 of 82 games for the Lightning last year and scored 16 goals while assisting
on 16 others.
