Colorado Avalanche Hire John MacFarland As Asst. GM

The Colorado Avalanche have hired the Columbus Blue Jackets’ assistant general manager John MacFarland into the same position. After 16 years with the Blue Jackets, where he became the assistant general manager in 2008, MacFarland is joining the Avalanche’s current assistant general managers Craig Billington and Greg Sherman. According to Avalanche VP Jean Martineau, Billington and Sherman will remain with the organization.

In a text Martineau said that “no subsequent moves” are part of the hiring. “Just an addition to the hockey operations staff.”

Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen has nothing but positive words for MacFarland. “Chris MacFarland has been an important member of this organization for many years and his contributions to our hockey club have been significant,” said Kekalainen.
