DENVER — Cushion — it feels comfortable.

After extending their points streak to six games late Wednesday night, the red-hot Avs like where they sit in the standings.

The Avalanche put two important points between itself and the Arizona Coyotes by taking multiple-goal leads and holding on to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 to complete a national-broadcast doubleheader at the Pepsi Center.

Colorado (83 points), which hosts Arizona in the biggest game of the season for both teams Friday night, leads the Coyotes (81) and Minnesota Wild (79) for the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot.
