The Colorado Avalanche announced the acquisition of Brandon Gormley late Wednesday night. In return, the Avalanche had to give up the rights to unsigned RFA defenseman Stefan Elliott.

Gormley was picked 13th overall by the Coyotes in the 2010 NHL Draft. Elliott was the Colorado Avalanche’s second-round selection (49th) the year prior.
The fact that Elliott is leaving just hurts a little bit. He has a lot of offensive talent, but defensive struggles prevented him from staying in the NHL. Furthermore, he didn’t always seem confident enough to deliver his game.
