Colorado Avalanche: 3 Surprising Players Who Must Step up in Landeskog’s Absence

The Colorado Avalanche lost their captain, Gabriel Landeskog, to injury when Dallas Stars goalie Ben Bishop “hip” checked him behind the net. Landeskog was reaching for the puck, and Bishop caught him vulnerable.

I’m not a big fan of the fact that goalies are considered untouchable but they can check players without incurring a penalty. Not only are modern goalies tall — Bishop is 6-foot-7 — but goalie pads add around 40 pounds to their lanky frames. He was about 255 pounds of hockey player coming at Landeskog’s outstretched arm.
