Nathan MacKinnon's 2015 World Championship debut Friday must have been bittersweet for the Avalanche. The NHL team lost its stellar teenager for the last 18 games of the season with a fractured foot but is undoubtedly pleased he's back at full strength.
And certainly, he's 100 percent.
MacKinnon, 19, was cleared to play in the Czech Republic-hosted worlds and had a goal and three points in Canada's 6-1 opening-day victory over Latvia. MacKinnon scored Canada's first goal and logged 13:59 in ice time while playing on a line with center Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Dallas Stars' Jason Spezza.
