If the Avalanche wants to upgrade its goaltending, the suddenly available Henrik Lundqvist is just sitting out there waiting to be scooped up.
But is he the right man for the job? That’s certainly up for debate.
For starters, the 38-year-old Swede, who was bought out by the New York Rangers on Wednesday, might retire and call it a Hockey Hall of Fame career. Second, Lundqvist will probably only consider Colorado in next week’s free agency if the Avs are willing to part with one of its two NHL goalies currently under contract.
And make no mistake, the Avs like their tandem of Philipp Grubauer and Pavel Francouz, regardless of public perception.
