Cale Makar recently witnessed a banner with his name being raised into the rafters above the home ice of UMass hockey, where the Colorado Avalanche rookie became a college legend.
Makar’s former teammates, especially members of his 2017 signing class, were proud to welcome him back in December for a pregame ceremony to honor the reigning Hobey Baker Award winner.
Although it seemed Makar, who led the Minutemen to an NCAA championship game appearance last season, wasn’t too absorbed by the attention.
“I’m not sure he liked it or not,” recalled UMass junior forward Mitchell Chaffee on Friday at Magness Arena, with the visiting Minutemen falling 4-2 at DU.
