Cale Makar continues etching his way into the Avalanche history books.
His two goals on Friday night in a 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers at Ball Arena increased his single-season total to 24 — setting a new franchise record for a defenseman. Makar surpassed the mark set by Sandis Ozolinsh (1996-97) to establish a new era of scoring excellence for a blueliner with the Avalanche.
“It’s pretty special,” Makar said. “I sound like a broken record but those goals go back to the team. It’s awesome to achieve something like that, but at the end of the day, we’re focused on this last run of the regular season.
