Cale Makar was still skating on adrenaline. It was between regulation and overtime in Edmonton. The Avalanche had secured one point but needed another, as much for their self-esteem as the standings. Makar would check his ice time after the game and be surprised to find a regular season career-high.

“It was kind of one of those games where I felt like I only played, like, 25 (minutes),” he later told The Post, reflecting on the 3-2 thriller that ended with his overtime goal. “And then there’s other games where (Devon Toews) and I get off the ice and we feel like we played 35, but we actually only played 24.
