ST. LOUIS — Goalie Semyon Varlamov was near-flawless and the Avalanche got first-period goals from forwards Jack Skille and John Mitchell to beat the St. Louis Blues 3-1 on Sunday at the Scottrade Center.
The Avs, who led 2-0 before the Blues began to tilt the ice offensively, improved to 10-9 on the road and 6-2 in the NHL's toughest division, the Central. Carl Sodeberg added an empty-net goal for Colorado's 18th shot of the game in the final minute. St. Louis put 43 shots on Varlamov.
The Avs, who won 3-2 at Nashville on Saturday, concludes their three-game trip Tuesday at Chicago.
