TAMPA, Fla. — Former Chicago Blackhawks first-round draft pick Jack Skille came to Avalanche training camp on a professional tryout contract, and he made the opening-night roster as a fourth-line winger on a modest two-way contract.
Thursday against the Lightning, Skille was a top-six forward, playing right wing on center Matt Duchene's line, with left winger Gabe Landeskog. Tuesday at Florida, Skille made his top-six debut, playing right wing with center Nathan MacKinnon and Landeskog.
Watch: Can Semyon Varlamov leads the Avs to a win?
But Skille, 28, still lives out of hotels.
