Crosscheck Carlos, the 2-year-old colt co-owned by Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson, finished second Sunday in Arapahoe Park’s richest thoroughbred race, the $100,000 Gold Rush Futurity, on the final day of the Aurora track’s 2016 meeting.
Becoming the first filly ever to win the Gold Rush, Bling On the Music romped by 14 lengths after going off as the 9-10 favorite in the six furlong-sprint.
Bling on the Music finished first in both of her previous starts at Lone Star in Texas, while Crosscheck Carlos lost for the first time after winning his first two starts, at Santa Anita and Evangeline Downs in Louisiana.
