Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar was named as a prospective witness Tuesday in the sexual assault trial of five members of Canada’s 2018 World Junior Championship hockey team.
The five players who are accused — Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton, Carter Hart and Michael McLeod — all pleaded not guilty Tuesday, the opening day of the trial. Makar was one of more than a dozen teammates of the accused on Canada’s 2018 WJC team named as prospective witnesses.
The trial is being held in London, Ontario, where the incident occurred at a hotel following a Hockey Canada event.
