Avalanche’s top line comes through again, with Colorado overcoming Sidney Crosby’s hat trick in sixth straight win

Sidney Crosby took over a game Colorado was dominating Wednesday night at the Pepsi Center, recording his 11th career hat trick that enabled the Penguins to erase a three-goal deficit against the Avalanche late in the game.

But Colorado’s top line had the final say in the team’s sixth straight win, a 6-3 victory at the Pepsi Center that once again affirmed the Avalanche is one of the hottest teams in hockey even when falling victim to once of the game’s active greats.

The combination of Gabe Landeskog, Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon — the first trio to collect at least 100 points through the first 24 games of an NHL season since 2005-06 — combined for eight points on Wednesday, including Landeskog’s game-winning goal midway through the third.
