Avalanche’s Semyon Varlamov named NHL’s first star of the week

Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov was named the NHL’s first star of the week on Monday.

Varlamov, 30, led Colorado to a 3-0-0 record, with a 1.34 goals-against average and .964 save percentage. He also had a shutout, a 3-0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights, in which he recorded 40 saves.

It is the third time this season an Avalanche player has earned one of the NHL’s stars of the week awards, joining Gabe Landeskog (first star on Oct. 22) and Mikko Rantanen (third star on Oct. 28).

This is Varlamov’s seventh career weekly star honor.
