GLENDALE, Ariz. — Creating scoring chances is something the Avalanche feels can be there on a nightly basis. It's a more consistent defensive effort thats needed to dig its way out of a losing record early in the season.
That effort wasn't there enough Thursday night, as the Avs fell 4-2 to the Arizona Coyotes despite a late rally.
Trailing 1-0 after the first period, Colorado (4-8-1) gave up two goals in the first 5½ minutes of the second period and never recovered. In between those two goals, Cody McLeod put in a rebound for his second goal of the season to cut Arizona's lead to 3-1, but the Avs could not catch up.
