EDMONTON, Alberta — Nathan MacKinnon has shouldered the load for the Colorado Avalanche this season and has been an integral part of the team's resurgence with an MVP-caliber season.
Now, the Avalanche are faced with playing without their star center and alternate captain for an undetermined time period.
MacKinnon will miss Thursday's contest against the Edmonton Oilers and will continue to be monitored by the team's training staff.
"He's day-to-day and he's going back to Denver to get evaluated. It doesn't look too serious at this point, but he'll miss (Thursday) and we'll see again for Saturday," Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said Wednesday after the team's morning skate at Rogers Place.
