Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon on Thursday was named the captain of the Central Division for the 2019 NHL All-Star Game.
MacKinnon, 23, earned the honor after winning the fan vote for the division. Toronto’s Auston Matthews (Atlantic), Washington’s Alex Ovechkin (Metropolitan) and Edmonton’s Connor McDavid (Pacific) are the other three captains.
The Colorado star is third in the NHL in points with 56 (22 goals and 34 assists), three behind league-leader and linemate Mikko Rantanen.
This will be MacKinnon’s third straight all-star appearance. He is the first Avs player to be named an all-star captain since Joe Sakic in 2007.
