Avalanche’s Matt Duchene on hitting 500 career games at advanced age of 25

After concluding its four-game road trip with a 5-2 loss at Florida Saturday night and traveling back to Denver, the Avalanche practiced Sunday at Family Sports Center.

Four veterans — defensemen Erik Johnson and Fedor Tyutin, plus wingers Rene Bourqe and Jarome Iginla, didn’t practice. Bourque and Tutin have been battling groin injuries, while Johnson and Iginla were on maintenance days. Colorado doesn’t play again until Friday’s home game against Winnipeg.

“There were a lot of games in a short period of time and travel, and we have a scheduled day off for tomorrow,” coach Jared Bednar said.
