RALEIGH, N.C. – After a relatively slow start to the season Gabriel Landeskog is suddenly one of the hottest players in the NHL, scoring two more goals on the heels of his third career hat trick while Nathan MacKinnon added a third point as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
Coach Jared Bednar, trying to get Philipp Grubauer more comfortable in net with his new team, gave the former Washington Capitals goalie a second straight start and the move paid off with a stellar effort in net.
Grubauer stopped 42 shots, including a breakaway by Micheal Ferland five minutes before Landeskog scored on the power play midway through the second period for a two-goal lead.
